The idea here is to match background and links to match the theme of your site. People on the internet today are trained to click on a link that is blue, and if your Google ads have the same theme as your web page, it makes the Google ads appear to be a portion of your content. You can also filter up to 200 URLs. It Is Not Evil, It Is Business

Google is a smart company - smart enough for many people to be surprised after they witness this or that move or an acquisition, surprised enough to say "Why has not anyone thought of that move earlier?" And now it seems that Google has finally realized that it sends way too much traffic from its search results pages to websites that do not contribute to Google's business. What would be the correct move for a business when faced by such a discovery? Find a way to make money by sending traffic to your own properties.

And this is exactly what Google needs Knol for: Google must be tired of being the major source of traffic for Wikipedia and many other independent publishers and now it looks for new ways to further monetize its own business. And for that it simply needed to have a platform of its own to be able to bring tons of content to internet users easily - and displace competitors from the search results. In this particular case Google serves as a full-cycle company: it provides the platform (Knol itself), the revenue (AdSense) and, finally, the distribution (search).

Google decided that by offering people to monetize their contributions to the encyclopedia of their own they will attract those same people that contribute to Wikipedia out of their own free will and understanding of what good is. Unfortunately, this type of people should be motivated otherwise, and since Google has chosen the easiest motivation factor that ever existed, it ended up with people looking for some quick profit for their contributions - and rarely caring about the quality of contributions at all.

Sure, we hear lots of complaints about Knol already. It is quite obvious that from the day 1 of Knol launch we should have expected voices pointing at spam on Knol created in order to get revenue by building a page on a popular term. It was so obvious that it is almost ridiculous to complain about it now. The explanation here is that no matter what service people use they invariably are motivated by something. And often the motivation offered by the service determines exactly what type of users it will attract eventually.

But will poor quality of content stop Google from acting as a content company? I don't think so. If there's anything that could prevent independent publishers from getting lost in the 3rd and subsequent pages of Google search results, it is simply lack of income Google generates by ads on Knol. But that would take having everybody stop clicking ads completely. Is that realistic? I can hardly believe it and I don't see a way the independent publishers could succeed in a campaign to make an average internet Joe stop clicking Google's ads on Google's Knols - correct me if I'm wrong.

King Of Internet Advertising

Google AdSense is an advertisement serving program run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites.
Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and salespeople.
Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through AdWords.
Webmasters invest significant effort into maximizing their own AdSense income and websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.

The Key To Success With Google AdSense

It seems that Google AdSense have already dominated the internet marketing business and is now considered the easiest way to making money online. The key to success with AdSense is the placing of ads on pages that are receiving high traffic for high demand keywords. The higher the cost-per-click to the advertiser, the more you will receive per click from your site.

Google ADSENSE

AdSense is an advertisement application run by Google. Website owners can enroll in this program to enable text, image, and more recently, video advertisements on their websites. These advertisements are administered by Google and generate revenue on either a per-click or per-impression basis. Google is also currently beta-testing a cost-per-action based service.

Overview

Google uses its Internet search technology to serve advertisements based on website content, the user's geographical location, and other factors. Those wanting to advertise with Google's targeted advertisement system may enroll through AdWords. AdSense has become a popular method of placing advertising on a website because the advertisements are less intrusive than most banners, and the content of the advertisements is often relevant to the website.

Currently, AdSense uses JavaScript code to incorporate the advertisements into a participating website. If the advertisements are included on a website that has not yet been crawled by the Mediabot, AdSense will temporarily display advertisements for charitable causes, also known as public service announcements (PSAs). (The Mediabot is different from the Googlebot, which maintains Google's search index.)

Many websites use AdSense to monetize their content. AdSense has been particularly important for delivering advertising revenue to small websites that do not have the resources for developing advertising sales programs and salespeople. To fill a website with advertisements that are relevant to the topics discussed, webmasters implement a brief script on the websites' pages. Websites that are content-rich have been very successful with this advertising program, as noted in a number of publisher case studies on the AdSense website.
Some webmasters invest significant effort into maximizing their own AdSense income. They do this in three ways:

1. They use a wide range of traffic-generating techniques, including but not limited to online advertising.

2. They build valuable content on their websites that attracts AdSense advertisements, which pay out the most when they are clicked.

3. They use text content on their websites that encourages visitors to click on advertisements. Note that Google prohibits webmasters from using phrases like "Click on my AdSense ads" to increase click rates. The phrases accepted are "Sponsored Links" and "Advertisements".

The source of all AdSense income is the AdWords program, which in turn has a complex pricing model based on a Vickrey second price auction. AdSense commands an advertiser to submit a sealed bid (i.e., a bid not observable by competitors). Additionally, for any given click received, advertisers only pay one bid increment above the second-highest bid.

17 Common Mistakes that Violate Google Adsense TOS

Google Adsense publishers often commit common mistakes that could ban their Adsense account. Google Adsense is a popular web advertising program which provides a good income source for many websites. There are well defined terms of service to strictly adhere to when participating in the program.
On my visit through sites and forums, I daily notice several instances of misuse of Adsense ads. So here a few helpful Google Adsense tips, probably many you already know, and few you might gain by knowing now. These adsense faq are all picked from the
Program Policies, Terms and Conditions and FAQ itself and presented in a simplified manner.
1. Never click your own adsense ads or get them clicked for whatever reason.
You know this one very well. This is a surefire way to close you Adsense account. Never tell your office associates or friends to click on them. Keep a check if your family or children are busy increasing your income by clicking your ads and indirectly trying to stop your income. Dont even think of offering incentives for clicks, using automated clicking tools, or other deceptive software. Adsense is very smart to detect fraudulent clicks. Check the ads which appear on your pages by the Google Preview tool if required.
2. Never change the Adsense code.
There are enough means of adsense optimization & customizations available to change the colour, background or border to suit your needs. Do whatever you want to do outside the code, never fiddle within the ad or the search code. They know it when you do. The search code has more limitations to colour and placement, but you should adhere to the rules. The code may stop working and violates the TOS.
3. Do not place more than 3 ad units and 3 ad links or 2 adsense search boxes on any web page.
Anyway, ads will not appear in those units even if you place more ad units. But this is the limit they set, so it is better to stick to it.
4. Do not run competitive contextual text ad or search services on the same site which offer Google Adsense competition in their field.
Never try to create link structures resembling the adsense ads. Never use other competitive search tools on the same pages which have Adsense powered Google search. They do allow affiliate or limited-text links. Update: Google has allowed you to run contextual advertising like Yahoo ads, Chitika etc provided the ads do not resemble Adsense ads.
5. Do not disclose confidential information about your account like the CTR, CPM and income derived via individual ad units or any other confidential information they may reveal to you.
However, you may reveal the total money you make as per recent updates to the TOS.
6. Label headings as “sponsored links” or “advertisements” or "adsense" only.
Other labels are not allowed. I have seen many sites label ads with other titles. Dont make your site a target in a few seconds gaze.
7. Never launch a New Page for clicked ads by default.
Adsense ads should open on the same page. You may be using a base target tag to open all links in a new window or frame by default. Correct it now as they do not want new pages opening from clicked ads.
8. One Account suffices for Multiple websites.
You do not need to create 5 accounts for 5 different websites. One account will do. If you live in the fear that if one account is closed down for violation of TOS, believe me they will close all accounts when they find out. You can keep track of clicks by using channels with real time statistics. They will automatically detect the new site and display relevant ads.
9. Place ads only on Content Pages.
Advertisers pay only for content based ads. Content drives relevant ads. Although you might manage some clicks from error, login, registration, “thank you” or welcome pages, parking pages or pop ups, it will get you out of the program.
10. Do not mask ad elements.
Alteration of colours and border is a facility to blend or contrast ads as per your site requirements. I have seen many sites where the url part is of the same colour as the background. While blending the ad with your site is a good idea, hiding relevant components of the ads is not allowed. Also do not block the visibility of ads by overlapping images, pop ups, tables etc.
11. Do not send your ads by email.
Html formatted emails look good and allow placement of these javascript ads. But it is not allowed as per TOS. You do not want impressions registering on their logs from any email even once. They are watching!
12. Keep track of your content.
So Adsense is not allowed on several non content pages. But it is also not allowed on several content pages too. Do not add it on web pages with MP3, Video, News Groups, and Image Results. Also exclude any pornographic, hate-related, violent, or illegal content.
13. Do not alter the results after ad clicks or searches.
Ensure you are not in any way altering the site which the user reaches to after clicking the ads. Do not frame, minimize, remove, redirect or otherwise inhibit the full and complete display of any Advertiser Page or Search Results Page after the user clicks on any Ad or Search results.
14. Avoid excessive advertising and keyword stuffing.
Although the definition of ‘excessive’ is a gray area and is subject to discretion, yet Google adsense with correct placement, focused content and high traffic will get you much more income than other programs, so excessive advertising is not required. Keyword stuffing does target better focused ads, but overdoing it is not required.
15. Ensure you Language is Supported.
Adsense supports “Chinese (simplified), Japanese, Danish, Korean, Dutch, Norwegian, English, Polish, Finnish, Portuguese, French, Russian, German, Spanish, Hungarian, Swedish, Italian and Turkish”. In addition, AdSense for search is available in Czech, Slovak, and Traditional Chinese. If your web pages language is not supported, do not use the code on such pages.
16. Do not specify Google ads as your alternate ads.
Several services like Chitika eminimalls allow you to place alternate urls, when a targeted paying ad cannot be displayed. This involved creating an simple html page and putting the ad to be displayed instead. Even Adsense allows an alternate url feature instead of displaying public service ads. But never use Adsense ads as alternate urls.
17. Do not confuse with adjacent images.
It was a common policy to increase CTR by placing same number of images as the number of text ads, which falsely gave the impression that the text ads represented an explanation to these images. Inserting a small space or a line between the images and ads is not allowed. Make sure that the ads and images are not arranged in a way that could easily mislead or confuse your visitors.

New In Adsense

New Ad Management Overview
If you've ever generated ad code in the past, then you'll notice some changes in your account with our latest feature. This new ad management feature allows you to store details about an AdSense unit, including ad size, colors, and channel settings, on our servers. By keeping these details on our servers rather than in the ad code on your pages, you can make changes to the AdSense units on your pages from within your account.
Read on below for more details about the new ad management feature and how it will impact you.
What's different about the way I create ads?
We now offer the option to create new AdSense units which you can customize and update within your account to see changes directly on your site. When you create a new AdSense unit, details of the ad unit (like colors and channels) will be stored in your AdSense account. This gives you faster, simpler ad management, allowing you to make changes to an AdSense unit on-the-fly without needing to re-paste the ad code or make additional changes to the page itself.
Please note that the option to manage ads from within your account is only available for your AdSense for content and referral units at this time.

How do I create an AdSense unit?
To create a new AdSense unit that you can manage within your account, follow the steps below. (The first few will seem pretty familiar to those of you who have generated code before.)
1) Sign in to your account at
http://www.google.com/adsense.
2) Under the AdSense Setup tab, choose the Get Ads link.

3) Select AdSense for content as the product. The new AdSense units are only available for AdSense for content at this time.
4) Choose your ad type, format, colors, and channels just as you have in the past.
5) Give your AdSense unit a name that you can remember. We recommend including the site(s), page(s), or location(s) that the AdSense unit will be placed on, so you can easily identify it in the future should you wish to make updates.
6) Click Submit and Get Code.
7) Copy and paste the newly generated code onto your site.

How do I manage my existing AdSense units?
To manage an AdSense unit you've already created, simply take the following steps:
1) Sign in to your account at
http://www.google.com/adsense.
2) Under the AdSense Setup tab, visit the Manage Ads page.
3) On this page, you'll see a list of active AdSense units -- units that have been created or received impressions in the last 7 days. (You can view a full list by selecting the checkbox next to 'Show inactive AdSense units'.) Select the AdSense unit you want to update.
4) Change the settings for this unit, then use the preview to view the changes. Save your changes.
5) Once you've saved your changes, they'll be visible in this AdSense unit on every page which contains the code for this AdSense unit. Keep in mind that it typically takes about 10 minutes for all our servers to be informed of the change and reflect it on your pages.
What if I already have an ad unit that I like? Do I have to go through that whole setup again?

If you have existing ad units you'd like to keep using, you don't need to go through the entire process of selecting ad settings and colors again. Instead, you can easily upgrade your ad code within your account using our import code option.
Find and copy the code on your site that you'd like to update.
Sign in to your AdSense account and visit the AdSense Setup tab.
On the Manage Ads page below it, you'll see the option to Import your old AdSense code. Click this link.
On the resulting page, paste your existing ad code into the box and give it a memorable name (we suggest including the site, page, location and/or appearance in the name).
Click Save and get code to create a new AdSense unit with the exact same settings.
Replace the old code your pages with the newly generated code and save your pages.
In the future, you'll be able to make changes to this AdSense unit from within your account, without updating your pages.
Do I have to use the new ad management feature, or can I stick with my old ad units?
While we expect the improved ad management options to be an upgrade for most publishers, you're also welcome not to use these options. Ads you've created in the past using the old version of the code will continue to work fine. However, keep in mind that we no longer provide the option to generate the old version of the ad code.
Going forward, when you generate code for a new ad unit, you'll be required to name it just in case you ever wish to update it in the future. If you'd prefer not to make updates to your ad units from within your account, that's fine. You can create a new ad unit every time you want to make changes to your ads.

What is google adsense?

Google AdSense is a fast and easy way for website publishers of all sizes to display relevant, unobtrusive Google ads on their website's content pages and earn money. Because the ads are related to what your users are looking for on your site, you'll finally have a way to both monetize and enhance your content pages.
It's also a way for web site publishers to provide Google search to their site users, and to earn money by displaying Google ads on the search results pages.
The program combines pay-per-click and pay-per-impression advertising - meaning you get paid for valid clicks on the ads on your site or search results pages as well as impressions on your content pages. So go ahead and try this program. If you comply with our program policies, just complete our online application and select either or both of AdSense for content pages and AdSense for search. One application gets you approved for both AdSense and AdSense for search - you can decide to use any combination of these products on your pages.
Adsense will review your application and follow up with an email within 2-3 days. If you are accepted into the program, you can log in to your new account and get the HTML code to insert into your webpages.
Keep in mind that participation in AdSense requires you to have a website. If you don't have one, you can sign up for a free blog at
http://www.blogger.com/ or create and publish useful, attractive webpages using Google Page Creator, at http://www.pages.google.com/.
